Procedures:
Entering the Classroom- When entering our classroom, students quietly walk to the closet. Students then hang their coat and book bag in the coatroom on their assigned hook. They get out their homework folder and put it in the homework folder file. If they have library books to turn in, they drop them in the book basket by the door. They then go to their seats to eat breakfast and complete their morning work.
When Tardy- When students are late they need to get a tardy slip from the office and then follow the procedures for entering the classroom. Students immediately join in activities without interrupting.
Sharpening Pencils- I sharpen pencils before and after school. If a pencil breaks or is dull, students can place their pencil in the “dull” bucket and grab a new one from the “sharp” bucket.
Lining up- As students line up for restroom breaks, specials, lunch, recess or assemblies, their voices are off, listening for further instructions and facing forward with their hands and feet to themselves.
Restroom/Drinks- Restroom breaks are discouraged during instructional time. At any other time of the day, students need to raise their hand and receive permission. Students will then grab either the boys’ or girls’ bathroom pass and place it on their desk before leaving to use the restroom. I encourage students to bring a water bottle from home to keep at their desks, as hydration is important for good health and having a water bottle at their desk maximizes instructional time throughout the day. I suggest an insulated water bottle with a top that flips closed (or is otherwise easily closed) and not a plastic water bottle with a screw-on lid. If the water bottle becomes a toy, it will be sent home.
Packing Up/Dismissal- While packing up to leave, students need to get homework and mail from their mailbox, put it in their homework folder and color their day on the behavior calendar. They then get their coat and book bag from the coatroom. After their area is cleaned up, chairs are up, and students are ready to leave, bus riders sit on the rainbow square rug and car riders line up at the door so they can listen to final announcements over the intercom.

Students are expected to be: ready to learn, responsible for their actions, and respectful to others.
Rules:
- Be safe.
- Be kind.
- Follow directions.
- Do your best work.
Policies:
- If students are absent, make-up work can either be picked up that day or taken home as homework when they return. Tests will be made-up during class.
- Birthdays are exciting in 1st grade! Every student receives a Birthday Crown. Please contact me ahead of time if you want to bring treats so we can plan for the celebration. Store bought, not homemade, treats are welcome (due to health department regulations).
- Toys are not allowed in our classroom unless a notice has gone home otherwise. If a toy is brought and played with during school, it will be kept stored and returned to the student the end of the day.
- Homework procedure is on the following page. (Generally it's 10-15 minutes of reading/math facts + academic enrichment as needed and communicated beforehand by your child's teacher.)
